Jobs/wealth/tech Drone Ships

I’m stoked that my Letter to the Editor of Professional Skipper, NZ’s premier marine industry magazine, was selected to be the first in the 100th Anniversary edition. Here’s the letter:

Dear Editor

Whoever wrote the article in the last issue bemoaning the possibility that unmanned drone cargo ships will increase unemployment, doesn’t get it. Yes jobs will go, but we live on an incredibly wealthy planet. The problem is sharing the wealth. Resisting labour saving technology is luddite and is not the answer. I, for one, am happy to pay my taxes and support a fair wage for all, especially in the shipping industry as you have so rightly campaigned for.

Update: 9 Oct 2018

How to pay taxes if you don’t have a job? Don’t bother. Change the tax system. Tax corporations properly. Introduce a land tax etc etc. It’s not hard.
